Religious Congregations

The Congregation of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan of the Order of Saint Benedict is the first Australian ‘home grown’ congregation of Catholic religious women.

Australia's first bishop, Archbishop John Bede Polding, founded the congregation in Sydney in 1857.

The Sisters of the Good Samaritan have a particular commitment to show mercy and compassion to the people in our Pacific region; Australia's Indigenous peoples; people with disabilities and those who do not have a safe place to call home.
