Faith development of children is primarily the responsibility of parents/caregivers. Parish communities offer families guidance and support with the reception of the sacraments of initiation.
The diocesan policy for sacramental preparation of children is family-centred, parish-based and school-supported. Catholic school staff and state school catechists often work in close co-operation with parish teams in this ministry.

Pastoral Ministries Formation and Education serves the parishes, parents and children of the diocese by research, development and pastoral practice. Support with training, resources and programs is readily available through Family Ministry Co-ordinators.
