Religious Congregations

The Marist Brothers were founded by a French priest, Marcellin Champagnat, to educate young people, especially those most in need.

The Brothers arrived in Newcastle in 1898 and from that time have had a continuous association with the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

Marists have taken the lead in many endeavours − from education, to missionary activity in a number of overseas countries; from working with youth and young adults to working with adolescents and families at risk through welfare services and juvenile justice.
