Statement from Bishop Bill Wright on the sentencing of John Denham
The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle continues to be saddened by the terrible harm that John Denham inflicted on so many innocent lives.
The Diocese continues to demonstrate its commitment to protect children through the funding of Zimmerman Services and the policies, procedures and staff training that are in place. I continue to personally promote the importance of each individual's responsibility in reporting suspected abuse. The quality of the Diocese's ongoing cooperation with Police has been the subject of evidence given to 'Cunneen' Special Commission of Inquiry.
When the Diocese has had the opportunity to obtain Justice Syme's judgement in full, it will be considered most carefully.
