Local community comes out in numbers for Christmas mass services

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle was pleased to see many members of the local community attending Christmas services throughout the region this season, with many churches reporting full attendance.

Vicar General, Fr Brian Mascord says it's important to take time to reflect on the year that was and celebrate Jesus' birth at Christmas:

"This time of year is important not only to people of faith, but for all throughout the community – as we all spend time with our families and give thanks,"

"Sacred Heart Cathedral saw full attendance with people spilling outside to attend Christmas Eve mass, while St Columban's Mayfield saw nearly 300 parishioners attend and St Peter's Stockton over 200. As a Diocese we are happy to see people coming together to celebrate as one at this special time of year." Fr Mascord said.
