Community comes together to celebrate Easter

"As we come together to celebrate Easter once more, I am reminded again of the power of community. Throughout our Diocese I am pleased to see the faithful join as one in this, our Holy Week where we retell the journey of God's people.

In many of our parishes I'm pleased to say we have seen many people celebrate Jesus' last supper, suffering, death and resurrection together, with particularly large numbers at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Sacred Heart Cathedral welcomed newborns through to centenarians, family groups of many generations and people from many ethnic backgrounds to masses throughout Holy Week. These celebrations also saw a number of children and adults baptised into the Catholic faith and become new members of our faithful community here in the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese.

Not just at Easter, but throughout the year we welcome all to join us in celebrating our Jubilee Year of Mercy. We have flung open the doors of all churches across the Diocese, as we continue to serve the local community in as many ways as we can."
