ACTiv8 Youth Chisholm Region

ACTiv8 Youth Chisholm Region

The ACTiv8 Youth Ministry in the Chisholm Region offers young people from the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle and beyond the opportunity to study at university or be in employed work whilst volunteering a minimum of 10 hours per week to youth ministry. In exchange for these committed hours of youth ministry, our volunteers on the ACTiv8 Team are provided with accommodation, food and household expenses for their year of service. We are based in the Maitland area and are placed in an ideal location to practice a “regional” style youth ministry whilst still being close enough to the University of Newcastle for our studying University students.

This experience in leading youth ministry is a fantastic opportunity to learn how a youth ministry can operate within and in partnership with a Parish, School and Regional community. For our future volunteer "Teamies", I encourage you to consider this fantastic opportunity, especially if you don’t already have a youth ministry running in your home parish. If you come and take a year with us on the ACTiv8 Team, not only will you experience personal growth in your own faith journey but you will learn important skills in leadership, organisation and team work. And, as an added bonus, volunteer work always looks fantastic on any resume.

Joining the ACTiv8 Team requires a minimum one year commitment. Activities involved in being a member of the Team include: developing youth programs which amalgamate the themes of youth culture, leadership and the Catholic tradition; coordinating various youth initiatives including Youth Masses, Youth groups, RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation of Children) and Youth outreach events, as well as participating in various school ministries.

For this year commitment, volunteers commit to a life lived ‘in common’ with the other members of the ACTiv8 Team. This means that the Team shares the space of the house, prays together, and shares the work load and housework. It is also important to note that each member of the Team is designated a Pastoral Carer from within our Chisholm Regional community for individual and personal support.

If you would like to learn more about being involved in our ACTiv8 Team program please contact stefanie.lloyd@mn.catholic.org.au and I can give you the full position description of being a ACTiv8 Teamie for our Chisholm Region and answer any questions you might have. I would love to hear from you. Expressions of interest are open all year round.
