Wayne Bennett to address capacity crowd for Tenison Woods Education Centre

Renowned coach of the Newcastle Knights, Wayne Bennett, will address a capacity crowd on Wednesday 15 May at East Maitland's Therry Centre.

Mr Bennett has agreed to be the guest speaker, in the midst of the NRL season, in order to show his support for the Tenison Woods Education Centre, a ministry of the Sisters of St Joseph, Lochinvar.

His chosen topic, "What really matters?", will allow him to share some of his experiences, both personal and sport-related, with an appreciative audience.

Wayne Bennett is recognised in Rugby League circles as one of the most influential and innovative of coaches. He coached the Brisbane Broncos for 21 consecutive years and under his leadership they were the most successful side, winning six premierships and never losing a grand final. He then moved to the St George Dragons and won his seventh premiership with them in 2010.

Over the years he has won many awards including in 1998, the Queensland Father of the Year for his role as father to his two children with disabilities. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Rugby League, and was named one of five Queensland Greats in 2002, for his contribution to the community and the state.

Wayne Bennett has had a major impact on the lives of many successful and impressive people. "You have a choice in life," he says, "You can sit back and criticise or you can try to make a difference."

Convenor of the annual Dinner and Newcastle Knights fan, Sr Maureen Salmon RSJ, said, "Like so many others, I'm looking forward to hearing Wayne speak about what really matters to him, and I'm sure we will all gain valuable insights and hear some good stories along the way. I have no doubt he will challenge each of us to consider 'what really matters'."

The Tenison Woods Education Centre, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph Lochinvar, began in 1993. It seeks to serve the church and all people searching for meaning and truth, through various forms of adult faith formation, offered at the Centre and in local communities.

The Centre also provides hospitality to groups wishing to run their own retreats or workshops.
