New appointment - Head of Catholic Schools

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Steven Lemos as Head of Catholic Schools.

Mr Lemos has more than 30 years of local and international experience in the education sector, working in leadership roles in schools and school systems, as well as in consultancy.  Having been with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle since 2020, Steve has most recently held the role of Assistant Director – System Leadership, Catholic Schools Office, where he has focused on building a system-wide culture of continuous improvement.

Diocesan Administrator, Fr Gregory Barker said, “Steve is an active participant and leader in the life of the Church. He brings our Catholic values to his work in education and leadership. I’m delighted to welcome Steve to this role in our Catholic schools.”

Chief Executive Officer of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, Sean Scanlon said, “We welcome Steve to the role of Head of Catholic Schools as our diocesan school administration is entering a new era. Steve’s career has seen him guide teams through change and deliver system improvements to support strong educational outcomes. His ability to build cohesive teams around pedagogy, learning, wellbeing and education will further support our school communities – for students, families and staff.”

Steve’s qualifications include an ongoing PhD focused on improving student writing, a Master of Education, and Bachelors’ degrees in both Education and Psychology. Steve lives in Lake Macquarie and is married with three children.

The new role of Head of Catholic Schools is responsible for educational outcomes while driving and unifying one systemic educational approach. The role commences 3 January 2023.​
