School families and staff are served by Pastoral Care Workers (PCWs) in both Catholic and government schools. These workers endeavour to meet the spiritual, social and emotional needs of students so they can make the most of the teaching and learning experiences the school offers. Find PCWs.
Typically PCWs accompany children, families and staff who are experiencing hardship. An important part of this care is referral to professional services and additional support.
The Church has taken the opportunity to make very positive contributions to school communities by sponsoring Chaplain/Pastoral Care Workers under the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program.
More information can be found at the National School Chaplaincy website.
A Pastoral Care Partnership exists under the Tri-Diocesan Covenant to provide this service so agencies such as the Catholic Schools Office, CatholicCare Social Services and The Samaritans can combine their expertise and personnel.
