Pastoral Regions
Since Pentecost 2000, the parishes
of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle have been arranged in ten
pastoral regions and these regions have been grouped in four
deaneries. A Pastoral Region refers to a group of parishes within
a particular geographical area who collaborate with one another
in furthering the mission of the Church.
In each pastoral region a priest is appointed by the bishop
to exercise leadership on his behalf in that region, ensuring that regional meetings are
convened and the regional plans are implemented. 'Regional Convenor' is the term used for
this appointee.
A dean is a priest appointed by the
bishop to coordinate pastoral activity and exercise pastoral care
of the clergy in a deanery. The regions and deaneries of our diocese
