Chaplains

A chaplain is a person appointed to minister to a special group of people, e.g. a school, hospital, university, prison, etc. In the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle chaplains work in educational facilities, prisons, hospitals and with the armed forces, ethnic groups and lay groups. Catholic Chaplains are involved:

at the Mater Hospital Waratah, John Hunter Hospital, Belmont Hospital, Maitland Hospital, Royal Newcastle Hospital
at the University of Newcastle
at St Heliers Correctional Centre Muswellbrook and Cessnock Correctional Centre
at St Joseph's Home Sandgate, St Martin de Porres Hostel Waratah and Mercy Nursing Home, Singleton
in industry (ITIM) see also national ITIM site and the Port of Newcastle see also Mission to Seafarers
in the Charismatic Renewal, the Society of St Vincent de Paul, the Catholic Women's League, Marriage Encounter
in Aboriginal and ethnic communities.
