Catholic Community Gathers for Annual Celebration
Tomorrow evening (Tuesday 30 March, 7.30pm) the Most Reverend Michael Malone, Catholic Bishop of Maitland-Newcastle will celebrate the annual Mass of Chrism with the priests and people of his diocese at Hamilton's Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Traditionally celebrated during the last week of Lent, the Chrism Mass is an annual celebration of the local church at which representatives from all parishes of the diocese will receive the blessed Holy Oils - the Oil of Chrism, Oil of Catechumens, and Oil of Sick.

These representatives will take the oils back to their respective parishes to be used during the Easter ceremonies and in the celebration of the Sacraments of the church throughout the year.

The Chrism Mass is one of the principal expressions of the fullness of the bishop's ministerial priesthood. This Mass signifies the close unity of bishop and priests and provides an opportunity for the clergy to renew their priestly commitment.

The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle incorporates the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter and Manning regions, and the Sacred Heart Cathedral is located at 841 Hunter Street, Newcastle West.
