For Immediate Release Thursday 5 February 2009

Top of the Diocese!

For the first time in history, the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle will recognise its overall HSC achiever in a special ceremony to announce the Diocesan Dux.

Maitland's Cassandra Wetzler who graduated from St Mary's Campus, All Saints College will be presented with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle HSC Dux Medallion.

Cassandra is about to embark on a university course in biomedical science. The fact that she gained a Universities Admissions Index (UAI) of 99.0, the highest of any student in a school of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, has provided an impressive springboard to her chosen career.

“I am really honoured to receive this award and thankful to all who helped me throughout the HSC year,” said Cassandra, who was also awarded 1 st place medals for Studies of Religion, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, Chemistry and Biology.

Despite this event being a first for the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, it's hoped it will now become an annual event. Complementing this award will be ceremonies in each of the six senior schools recognising the highest achievers at a local level.

"We hope that this public recognition will both encourage current students to realise their potential and acknowledge the dedication of our teachers. A successful student always needs the support of family and the school community to achieve their goals," said Assistant Director of Schools Mr Gerard Mowbray.

Cassandra will be presented with the medallion by Director of Schools Mr Ray Collins tomorrow - Friday 6 February 2009.
