World Youth Day - Food for Thought
With just two months to go until World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, the 15th Annual Tenison Woods Education Centre dinner will this year be given a youth focus when keynote speaker, Jenni Winters shares her experiences of World Youth Day through her topic ‘World Youth Day: one young person’s story’.
Ms Winters is well-placed to talk about her World Youth Day experiences, having previously attended the event both in Rome and Toronto.
She is currently the Formation and Program Director of MAGiS08, a Jesuit program which is aiming to gather young people from around the world to locations across Asia and Australia in the lead up to World Youth Day, and encourage them to step outside their comfort zones through a series of ‘experiments’ or challenges.
“As World Youth Day approaches I look forward to hearing the perspectives of a young woman who has had firsthand experience of WYD and who will share the implications of those experiences for the Australian church,” said Sr Louise Gannon RSJ, Chair of the Board of the Tenison Woods Education Centre.
“Jenni brings a wealth of ministry experience, and the insights that accompany that experience, to our audience. I welcome the youthful optimism that I’m sure she will bring.”
The Tenison Woods Education Centre, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph Lochinvar, began in 1993. It seeks to serve the church and all people searching for meaning and truth, through various forms of adult faith formation, offered at the Centre and in local communities. The Centre also provides hospitality to groups wishing to run their own retreats or workshops.
“As our major annual fundraiser, the Tenison Woods Dinner, which this year will be held on Friday 23 May, aims to gather the diocesan and local communities and promote good conversation,” Sr Louise said.
