Windale Community Skills Shed receives $22,000 boost
Windale's Two Bishops Trust Community Skills Shed Project has received a significant funding boost from the NSW State Government.
Member for Charlestown Matthew Morris MP, has secured $22,000 in funding from the NSW Government for the project which is managed by Centacare Newcastle in partnership with the Two Bishops Trust.
Once completed, the Two Bishops Trust Community Skills Shed will provide men and women from the Windale community with one on one mentoring and access to education and training.
“The project enables older people to share their skills and knowledge with disadvantaged young people to assist them in finding employment,” Mr Morris said.
“Mature aged residents of Windale have experience in areas as diverse as motor mechanics, steel and metal fabrication and furniture making.”
Ms Liz Macdonald, Centacare Manager for the Shed project said that the project also aims to improve participants' personal development and health.
“In providing an avenue for young people to develop pre-vocational skills, the project aims to help young people to connect with their community and to acquire skills which will prepare them for further vocational training and employment possibilities,” Ms Macdonald said.
The Two Bishops Trust/Centacare project brings together members of the Windale Community, local, state and federal government representatives and local business.
