Prayers of support and solidarity for victims of Bali bombings
The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle will hold a gathering for prayer and reflection at the Sacred Heart Cathedral this Thursday evening Thursday 6th October at 6:00 pm.
According to Mrs Teresa Brierley, Vice Chancellor for Pastoral Ministries in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, “As the Newcastle and Hunter communities continue to grapple with the trauma of last weekend’s bombings, we are realising just how widespread the connections within our community are. School, work, social and faith communities are facing the distressing facts that some of their own have been lost, injured or traumatised by these devastating events.
“We hope that Thursday’s gathering will provide people with an opportunity to publicly acknowledge and ritualise their grief, and also to express their support and solidarity for those among us who are suffering. We, the Catholic community are all saddened that such a tragedy has hit the Newcastle area. There are many communities affected and we are journeying with them.”
The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle will provide counselling and support services to affected individuals, parishes and schools through its agencies, Centacare Newcastle and the Catholic Schools Office. Media will be notified as soon as a number is established.
