Recognition for Hunter and Manning Catholic
Aged Care Staff
During
a special ceremony tomorrow evening (Thursday 20th November) 140
staff from Catholic Care of the Aged (CCA) facilities across the
Hunter and Manning regions will be honoured for their success
in completing recognised courses of study to support their work
with aged people.
Bishop Michael
Malone, Catholic Bishop of Maitland-Newcastle, will conduct the
ceremony at Western Suburbs Leagues Club in the presence of the
graduands' family and friends.
A $225,000
Commonwealth grant has enabled staff to undertake their course
of study through education provided by the staff development unit
at Catholic Care of the Aged in collaboration with TAFE.
Mrs Maree
Bernoth, Education Coordinator at CCA said: "The opportunity
for ongoing staff education is a core value at CCA and an absolute
necessity to ensure that our aged people are receiving the best
care that can be possibly provided and the staff are more satisfied
with the care they give".
"CCA
is very pleased to celebrate the success of its staff as they
complete various courses of study which will improve their knowledge
and skills in aged care. The Certificate II Health Services course
has been a process of recognising competencies and knowledge that
staff already had".
The courses
have been completed during the last year and reflect success by
staff in the Certificate II Health Support Services, Certificate
III Community Services Aged Care Work, Certificate IV Workplace
Assessor.
Ms Julie Byles,
Director of the Centre for Research and Education in Aged Care
at the University of Newcastle will be keynote speaker at the
event. Staff will also be commissioned in their work with the
aged during the ceremony.
CCA is grateful
to the sponsors who support their work: Western Suburbs Leagues
Club, Norm Jenkins, McLeods Pharmacy Rutherford, Paul Hartmanns
Pty. Ltd., All Staff and Mac's Plumbing.
