Rugby Greats to Provide Inspiration to Students
and Sell-Out Luncheon
Over
150 Novocastrian Rugby Union fans will gather for the Two Bishops
Trust Rugby Luncheon tomorrow to hear guest speakers and rugby
union greats Bob Dwyer and Nick Farr-Jones.
While in town,
Mr Dwyer and Mr Farr-Jones will visit Hunter Sports High at Gateshead
to speak with students from a number of local high schools about
goal setting and achieving their dreams.
Both men have
spoken of their desire to use their high profile to inspire others.
In the book Gods of Sport (Chapman & Clifford, 1995),
Mr Farr-Jones was quoted as saying:
"I certainly
think I've been called to get up and speak. Mind you, I prefer
standing in the background and being an encourager. I've had a
lot of opportunities as captain of Australia to speak and I really
think that is one of the things God has given me," said Mr
Farr-Jones.
"I believe
I have a role to encourage people and that's not just through
speaking engagements. In the end, I don't want to be lying on
my deathbed regretting that I didn't do certain things in my life."
The sell-out
luncheon will raise vital funds for the Two Bishops Trust to assist
communities to establish long-term solutions for people who are
unemployed or on a fixed low income in the Hunter region.
Dining with
Mr Dwyer and Farr-Jones will be the founders of the Two Bishops
Trust and sports fans, local Anglican and Catholic bishops, Bishop
Roger Herft and Bishop Michael Malone.
A number of
local businesses have thrown their weight behind the Trust, providing
in kind support and goods and services to be auctioned during
the luncheon. Supporters include the Australian Rugby Union, Charlestown
Bowling Club, Tooheys, Peter Doyle Cellars, Hunter Valley Gardens
and Harrigans Irish Pub, Enigma, Mudgee Tourism, Mudgee's Getaway
Cottages, Barrington Country Retreat, Street Real Estate, Newcastle
and Hunter Valley Rugby Union and Hawthorn Rugby Union Club.
