Young People Urge Community to Support Vigil
for Peace
A
group of concerned young people from New Lambton's Catholic Parish
of St Therese are calling on the people of Newcastle to support
them in a prayer vigil for peace.
In a letter
sent to various Church and community groups, Damian O'Bryan, Naomi
Waller and Paul Asquith say: "The unfortunate state of our
world has become a concern to the point where the severity of
the situation cannot be ignored any longer.
"With
the threat of disaster on our doorstep, our service men and women
overseas and our world leaders faced with tough decisions on impending
war, the young people of the Catholic Church are calling on our
fellow Christians to join us in a time of prayer for peace and
unity."
At 6:00 pm
on Saturday 29th March, a 24-hour prayer vigil for peace will
commence at St Therese's Catholic Church, Victoria Street New
Lambton.
Not only are
they calling on the people of Newcastle to come along to the vigil,
they are also inviting people to assist in the preparation of
the event. "We would like to invite you and your communities
to come and be involved and even prepare segments of this event.
As the book of Ephesians says: 'make every effort to keep among
you the unity of Spirit through bonds of peace. Let there be one
body and one Spirit' (Ephesians 4:3-4)."
"We recognise
that there are many different understandings of faith in God.
However, we are calling you to put aside differences and unite
for the common cause. We believe that this would be a very powerful
statement towards peace in this world. All groups are invited
to come and be a presence in this vigil."
