Property Purchase to Provide Church Presence in Growth Area
The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has recently purchased a 300-hectare property in order to provide a Church presence in the rapidly growing area to the west of Newcastle.

This is a major purchase by the diocese but given the projected demographics of an even larger population in future years, the diocese believes it is important for the Church to have a presence in this area.

According to Diocesan Business Manager, Mr John Feenan, “The future development of the property will be subject to further investigation in consultation with Planning NSW and Cessnock City Council. However, a property of this size will allow a possible site for a future parish and or regional school and some residential development.”

The decision to purchase the property was made after several years of research undertaken by the Diocesan Property Committee in consultation with Bishop Michael Malone, his Diocesan Consultors and Diocesan Finance Council.

The property is located along John Renshaw Drive in the Black Hill area.

Contracts were exchanged on 5th June and settlement occurred on 8th July.
