Community Aged Care Unit Finds New Home
During a special ceremony tomorrow afternoon (Friday 7th June),
the Most Reverend Michael Malone, Bishop of Maitland-Newcastle,
will officially open and bless new premises for the Community
Care Unit of Catholic Care of the Aged (CCA).
The new Community
Care Unit, situated at Iron Bark House on the St Joseph's Home
site at Sandgate, is a former dairy farm residence built in the
early 1900's.
According
to Mrs Lynne Graham, Manager of Community Care, "This is a significant
development in the life of Community Care. It's the first time
that the Community Care Unit of Catholic Care of the Aged has
taken ownership of 'bricks and mortar' to house staff and provide
support services."
CCA's Community
Care receives funding from the Commonwealth Government to provide
support services to frail aged persons living in the community
who have been assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team as needing
low level residential care.
Services provided
to individuals include personal care, housekeeping, meal preparation,
transport, shopping, and some therapeutic services such as monitoring
of medications.
Generally,
services are targeted to minimise the deficits in activities of
daily living that an individual may experience and to assist them
to remain safe and secure in their own home.
Community
Care services are provided in the Newcastle, Maitland, Port Stephens,
East Lake Macquarie, Taree and Gloucester areas.
The
opening and blessing of CCA's Community Care Unit
will take place tomorrow Friday 7th June at 12:00 noon
Iron Bark House, 240 Maitland Road Sandgate
