Sandy Hollway to Visit Hunter in Support of Volunteers
Mr Sandy Hollway, the former Chief Executive Officer of SOCOG and currently Chairman of the NSW Premier's Advisory Committee for the International Year of the Volunteer 2001, will visit the Hunter next Wednesday (March 28) as the key note speaker for a one-day forum that seeks to support and highlight the significant contribution that volunteers make to our communities.

Mr Hollway is committed to volunteerism and following through on the legacy of the successful Sydney Olympic Games. In his address, referring to the Olympic volunteering experiences, Mr Hollway will focus on the challenge that lies ahead for volunteering and how volunteer groups may be assisted by State initiatives.

Prior to joining SOCOG in February 1997, Mr Hollway was Secretary of the Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs. From 1993 until 1996, he was Secretary of the Department of Industry, Science and Technology, and prior to that, he held a number of key positions in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He was also Chief of Staff for Prime Minister Bob Hawke between 1988 and 1990.

During the one-day forum, four workshops will be presented covering some of the many issues that face volunteer groups such as networking, the management of human resources, taxation and accounting, training, and dealing with the business community.

The forum has been organised collaboratively by the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, the Federation of Parents and Friends, the Hunter Volunteer Centre and the Hunter International Year of the Volunteers Coordinating Committee.
