International
Children's Memorial Day Service of Love
January
29 has been deemed International Children's Memorial Day. On this
day, we remember all children who have died throughout the world.
Many of the grief and bereavement support and counselling groups
in the Newcastle and Hunter region are coming together for an
ecumenical service of love at the Sacred Heart Cathedral.
The service is open to anyone whose child has died at any age,
and for any reason. During the service, families are invited to
light a candle in memory of their child, and to place their child's
name on a list to be read out. Families unable to attend the service
are welcome to contact the SIDS Drop-in-Centre and arrange for
a candle to be lit and the child's name to be read out at the
service.
Organisers hope that the service will provide an opportunity for
families to pause from the busyness of life and dedicate some
time to the memory of their child. They hope that those who attend
will gain a feeling of inner peace and a sense of community; surrounded
by people who have shared similar experiences and who have an
understanding of the grief journey.
The service
will be held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, 827 Hunter Street,
Newcastle West, at 8.00 pm.
