Catholic
Parishioners Help Restore the Earth
Tomorrow
(October 21) at locations across the Hunter Region, Catholic parishioners
from the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle will plant, weed, mulch,
water and dig to "restore the earth".
"Restore
the Earth" is a joint venture between the Hunter Region Landcare
Network and the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
Local
Parishes have worked with their area Landcare Groups to determine
an appropriate location in their area, decide upon the work most
needed at each location and to ensure that each location has the
equipment and resources needed to carry out the work.
This
year has been designated a year of Great Jubilee.
In
the tradition of the Hebrew Scriptures, Jubilee takes place every
fifty years.
It
is a time of both celebration and restoration.
Christians
are called to celebrate their many blessings, and to work to rectify
inequities on all levels: between individuals, groups and with
the land.
It
is a time to rest the land, and to repair any damage caused to
the environment through our improper usage.
The
"Restore the Earth" project is a practical expression
of many of the Jubilee concepts.
On
the attached page, you'll find a list of the locations for tomorrow's
project.
All
media are warmly welcome to visit the Throsby Creek and Maitland
