St Columban's Primary Mayfield Wins NRMA
Road Safety Award
This Thursday morning (3 December) St Columban's Primary School,
Mayfield will be presented with an award recognising the school's
accomplishments in the area of road safety.
St Columban's will be presented with a Certificate of Best Practice
and a voucher for $1500 worth of educational resources after being
selected as one of five winners in NRMA's School Road Safety Awards.
NRMA Road Safety Educator, John Brown, said more than 90 primary
schools throughout NSW had registered for the awards, which aim
to identify examples of best practice in road safety education.
NRMA runs the School Road Safety Education Awards each year to
commend and reward five primary schools for their quality school-based
road safety program.
According to Mr Brown: "Road safety education has been an
integral part of the St Columban's 1998 management plan. Over
the past two years the school has made a concerted effort to improve
road safety education within each classroom.
"To raise the level of awareness and importance of road safety,
visits are arranged by the local police and bus company every
year. To improve the safety of students, safety barriers have
also been created to secure the car park and to avoid pedestrian
conflict with school traffic.
"Additionally, St Columban's is part of the Safer Routes
to School Program which aims to develop the safest route to school
for every student," said Mr Brown.
The presentation of the award will take place at St Columban's
Primary School, Church Street Mayfield this Thursday 3 December,
9.10am. All media welcome.
