Historic Unification: Two Bishops Trust
All media are invited to a media conference from 11.00 am to 11.30 am on Tuesday October 27 in the Toohey Room at the Catholic Diocesan Centre (Bishop Clarke House), 841 Hunter Street Newcastle West.

Media are advised that this conference will be the subject of an historic unification statement of major social significance to the entire Hunter Region and beyond. The statement begins:

'The current and projected levels of unemployment and social distress in the Hunter Region are morally unacceptable. There is a moral and historical imperative for the people of the Hunter Region to unite to look after their own...'

This foundation Vision statement of The Two Bishops Trust will be issued by the five trustees of the Trust: The Most Reverend Michael Malone (Catholic Bishop of Maitland-Newcastle), The Right Reverend Roger Herft (Anglican Bishop of Newcastle), Mr Cec Shevels (Director of the Samaritans Foundation), Mr Jim Nancarrow (Diocesan President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society) and Mr Howard Frith (Managing Director of the Newcastle Permanent Building Society).

The statement details a course of unified action which is of major significance to every unemployed person or person on a fixed low income throughout the Hunter Region and beyond. A copy of the Vision statement will be supplied to the media during the media conference. The media will also have the opportunity to question the five trustees.

The establishment of The Two Bishops Trust involves both a unification and a course of action which are of national historic import in the pursuit of social justice.
