"The Gift of Difference": Celebrating Children with Special Needs in Education
This Tuesday evening (27 October) the Most Reverend Michael Malone, Catholic Bishop of Maitland-Newcastle will preside at a Mass to celebrate the support given to the education of children with special needs in Catholic schools.

Formed in 1995 the Diocesan Special Needs Support Group is a working committee of the Federation of Parents and Friends Association and aims to support families and students with special needs enrolled in Catholic schools.

This is the first time that a celebration of this kind has taken place and the theme for this year is "The Gift of Difference."
According to Carmel Jennings, Special Needs Support Group Co-ordinator, "The idea of having the celebration came from Laurice Scevak, a parent of a child with special needs who is also a member of the Support Group.

"Laurice's vision was to celebrate and show support for children with special needs, their families, teachers and other support staff involved in the education of children with special needs in the diocese," said Ms Jennings.

All are very welcome to attend this diocesan celebration to commence at 7pm on Tuesday 27 October at Hamilton's Sacred Heart Cathedral.
