Social
Justice Commission Urges Community Response to "Participation
of Women in Church Project
On Wednesday 21 August at St Mary's Cathedral College, Cardinal
Edward Clancy, President of the Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference,
launched a study on women's participation in the Catholic Church
in Australia.
The aim of this nation-wide project is to gather information about
how women currently participate in the Church in Australia and
how their participation can be increased.
In response to the national launch of this project, the Social
Justice Commission of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is calling
for interested people to form a committee so as to co-ordinate
this project at a local level.
Members of this co-ordinating group will be required to disseminate
information about the project as widely as possible, encouraging
discussion and written submissions.
This research project provides an opportunity for everyone to
express their views on women's participation in the Church, whether
female or male, young or old, involved in official Church structures
or not.
