The main function of the Communications Office is to assist the bishop and diocesan representatives in the promotion of the spiritual, pastoral and community activities of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

Through the use of internal and external communication vehicles, the Communications Office seeks to promote the works, activities, events of the diocese; to explore issues of significance to the Church; and to raise an awareness of gospel values within the diocesan and wider community and for that awareness to lead to behaviour based on those values.

Our diocesan media liaison service encourages positive and open relationships with both religious and mainstream media outlets at a local and national level; is proactive as well as responsive in the distribution of material relating to religious issues; and encourages and assists diocesan representatives as much as possible in the promotion of material in mainstream and religious media.
