Services to Celebrate the Life and Death of Pope John Paul II

Sacred Heart Cathedral, 841 Hunter Street Newcastle West - ALL WELCOME

Official period of mourning for Pope John Paul II – Monday 4th April until Thursday 7th April 2005

Sacred Heart Cathedral will be open each day for personal prayer and reflection from 8:00am until 8:00pm. A book of condolences will be available for people to sign at Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Bishop's Chancery Office (located adjacent to the Cathedral)

Monday 4th April 2005
8:00 am Sacred Heart Cathedral will be open for prayer all day and a Book of Condolences available in the Cathedral and Bishop's Chancery Office
8:20 am Mass of the Annunciation of the Lord
10:00 am - 12 noon Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Prayer
12:05 pm Mass
8:00 pm Cathedral closes

Tuesday 5th April 2005 Day of Prayer and Reflection on the life of Pope John Paul II
8:20 am Requiem Mass (Bishop Michael Malone will preside)
9:00 - 10:00 am Rosary: ‘The Rosary is nothing other than to contemplate with Mary the face of Christ'
10:00 - 11:00 am Gift and Mystery: John Paul II on Priesthood
11:00 am - 12 noon A Civilization of Love: John Paul II's contribution to Theology
12:05 pm Mass (Monsignor Allan Hart will preside)
1:00 - 2:00 pm Pope John Paul II's International Initiatives and Interests

12:05 pm Mass (Cardinal Edward Cassidy will preside)
6:00 pm Pontifical Requiem Mass (Bishop Michael Malone will preside and the clergy of the diocese will concelebrate)
