STORY - "Come and See! A Journey to Discover Your Divine Potential!"
These days, journeys and pilgrimages abound. We are invited to different parts of Australia, or overseas to Europe, the Holy Land or Asia. Some pilgrimages invite us to special events like the World Cup or World Youth Day. Others invite us to walk in the footsteps of great people.
The Tenison Woods Education Centre invites you on a journey of a different kind, through participating in its recently revamped Christian Formation Course, commencing February 2007.
This is a journey for those who are looking for an opportunity to:
- ponder the meaning of their life experience;
- meet Jesus anew;
- look afresh at the Catholic view of life and faith;
- explore their faith, deepening and stretching it to fit their changing adult life.
In the words of its mission statement, ‘the course aims to allow participants to explore their life’s journey and their understandings about Jesus through a programme of education within the Catholic Tradition, inspiring them to live more deliberately as his disciples.’
Again, like most pilgrimages, this journey requires a significant commitment. It is a three year course where participants gather every Tuesday night from 6.30pm – 9.30pm during school terms. However, like all commitments that ask big things of us, the benefits often far exceed our expectation.
When reflecting on the course, one participant wrote “what was critical for me was its sustenance! It was like a regular indulgence at a favourite restaurant.”
Since 2005 the course has undergone a comprehensive external review. The Review Report was presented to the Tenison Woods Administrative Board and widely circulated throughout the diocese. The first of the Report’s seven recommendations was that the Course continue because of its high quality and the esteem in which it is held.
The 2007 new course format will be a brighter and fresher version of the previous course which has run eight times since its inception in 1998. One of the initiatives from the review is an attempt to strengthen the association between the course and the local church. Consequently, the 2007 course is being hosted by the Chisholm Region, which in the midst of significant change, is focusing on adult faith formation. Neighbouring parishes and regions have also expressed interest in participating, as well as people from farther afield.
You are invited to consider participating in this unique journey, and to invite others to participate. The Christian Formation Course is endorsed by Bishop Michael and is open to Catholics of all ages, with varying levels of association with the church.
If you are unable to participate in the course at Lochinvar, but would be interested when it is offered elsewhere, please let us know.
