STORY - "How to find a really good wife"
By Tracey Edstein
No, no, Aurora has not moved into matchmaking mode… but some local parishes are sure to embrace the new liturgical planning tool LabOra Worship.
An initiative of the Brisbane Liturgical Commission, its name comes from the Benedictine motto, Ora et Labora, “pray and work”, and it has much potential to minimise the work involved in enabling communities to pray effectively.
Visiting the diocese late last year, Fr Tom Elich, director of the Liturgical Commission and editor of Liturgy News, demonstrated the resource, a CD library which users install on their computer. He used the example of a man preparing a funeral liturgy who asked “how to find the really good wife reading”. There is a search facility which finds key words in scripture and supplies the text on screen. So the man easily located Proverbs 31:10-31.
Features of the resource include the complete Sacramentary, the complete Lectionary, the complete Bible, sacramental rites, Morning
and Evening Prayer, hymnals, clip art and more.
There is practical assistance in composing homilies and prayers of the faithful, and generating booklets for a variety of occasions, parish bulletins and powerpoint presentations. If you need help, click on the angel icon!
Louise Gannon RSJ of the diocesan Liturgy Commission was impressed with LabOra Worship, saying that “As well as helping people with the practicalities of liturgy, it’s a catechetical device which keeps referring people to sound liturgical praxis.”
Terry Kerr, Secretary to the Dean of the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle, and a member of Charlestown parish, said, “I use it every day”.
