Bishop Bill Wright to deliver 2015 Christmas message on waterfront at Swansea

Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools Office

As Christmas approaches, Bishop Bill Wright will deliver his annual Christmas message to the community at St Patrick's Primary School, Swansea on Tuesday morning from 10.30am.

Bishop Bill will arrive by boat at the school and will be greeted by students singing a hymn.

Principal of St Patrick's, Mr Peter Green, believes that the Bishop's unique arrival will give resonance to the purpose of the visit.

"Our school community is honoured that Bishop Bill has chosen to visit St Patrick's to deliver his Christmas message this year. We wanted to acknowledge the beauty of the Swansea Channel and the students are very keen to greet him with voices raised in prayer.

"We hope that Bishop Bill's arrival by boat inspires the students to listen to his Christmas message with open hearts, just as Jesus' disciples once listened to him out on a lake," Mr Green said.

Bishop Bill is looking forward to Tuesday's visit and interacting with staff and students.

"Christmas is typically a very special time in the lives of children. In Australia, the Christmas season coincides with the end of a long school year, so families are anticipating not just Christ's birth, but a break from the hectic pace of life and time for reconnection with their families.

"I am looking forward to speaking to the children of St Patrick's and hearing their thoughts on the meaning of Christmas and what they are most thankful for this year," Bishop Bill said.

The morning's celebration will include performances by students, addresses by Bishop Bill and Peter Green and a morning tea with staff and students.
