In a time of heightened security concerns, how do Christians respond to the issues of terrorism, war and the domestic policies that turn around these matters?
Next Tuesday, 21st October Bishop Bill Wright of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastleand Bishop Greg Thompson of the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle will come together to explore how their two traditions frame their thinking around these issues.
The event, which is the latest in the now established Two Bishop’s Dialogue series of open forums, continues the tradition of meeting annually since the Tri-Diocesan Covenant signing in 2008. The Two Bishop’s Dialogue is an opportunity for the Bishops to take time out for questions and open discussion on current matters within society. The central aim is to act as a vehicle for engagement with the local community on spiritual, religious, ethical and theological issues and this event will be no different.
Bishop Bill is looking forward to continuing the tradition in the local community:
“As Christians it’s important that all of us have the opportunity to come together regularly and openly discuss issues within our local community. We are all people of faith, and it’s this faith which I believe will bring us together to affect change for the better in our society,” Bishop Bill said.
Similarly, Bishop Greg is keen to promote the event as one in many opportunities the local community will have to interact with both Bishops directly:
“In years gone by I know the Two Bishop’s Dialogue is something that resonated not just in the Anglican and Catholic communities, but right throughout the Newcastle and Hunter regions. It’s this passion and open commentary which both Bishop Bill and I are looking to grow once again,” Bishop Greg said.
To be held at St Thomas’ Anglican Church, Cardiff the Two Bishop’s Dialogue will begin at 6pm, and conclude at 9pm – followed by refreshments.
