VIDEO: Bishop Bill on Social Justice Statement

The Australian Catholic Bishops Social Justice Statement for 2014-2015 has a distinctive sporting flavour. "A Crown for Australia : Striving for the best in our sporting nation" is the challenge issued to us to look at the place of sport in our lives. What are the strengths and how can we ensure that sport can thrive and in return can nourish our society? Equally, what are the influences that are undermining and distorting sport’s ideals? This year, all people throughout the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese and the wider community are asked to consider the role sport plays in our lives and how this can be supported through our faith.

Everyone is encouraged to download the 2014-2015 Social Justice Statement, "A Crown for Australia" and consider what this means to you personally. You can also download additional resources (including liturgy notes, prayer cards and Powerpoint files) from the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council website.

In preparation for Social Justice Sunday on September 28, Bishop Bill was interviewed by Parish-Family Liaison Officer Helene O'Neill regarding his views on the statement. You can watch this full interview below:
