Reflecting on the life and ministry of the ordained priesthood

On Friday December 12, the diocesan community is invited to gather to celebrate the ordination of Peter Street to the priesthood. This is more than an event in Peter’s life. It is an ecclesial event; a celebration of the whole Church of Maitland-Newcastle. The Diocesan Liturgy Council therefore invites the whole Church to take some time to prepare for Peter’s ordination.

Reflecting on the life and ministry of the ordained priesthood

The accompanying document contains some key prayers and other texts from the Rite of Ordination.  This is where we find the Church’s primary expression of its understanding of the life and ministry of a Priest.

Over the coming weeks, as individuals or in small groups, you might like to choose one or more of these texts to pray with, reflect on and sift for meaning.

When this prayer and reflection takes place in groups, it would be particularly enhanced if someone ministering as a priest was able to participate.

The focus of such groups would be prayer and shared reflection, rather than discussion or debate. This is an invitation into sacred, and therefore respectful, listening.

All members of the Church are invited to participate in the celebration of Peter’s ordination on Friday December 12 at 7.30pm in the Sacred Heart Cathedral.
