Diocesan "Catholic Families" report released

Diocesan "Catholic Families" report released

In November 2013, Pope Francis invited Catholics from every diocese in the world to participate in a questionnaire on the many challenges facing the family today. This request was made in preparation for an Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the theme of "Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelisation" in Rome which will take place on 5-19 October and will be attended by presidents of Episcopal conferences from across the world.

The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has made public its 98-page report which was presented to Bishop Bill and accordingly sent to the Australian Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life. Download the Diocesan Report on The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelisation 2013

You can also view the Instrumentum laboris (Latin for 'working instrument'), a type of Vatican official document that outlines the worldwide responses to this questionnaire. A useful, easy-to-understand summary of the responses can also be found on The Tablet UK website.

If you wish to download the original Lineamenta (an introduction and outline of the subject, which included the questionnaire) you can do so here.

The diocese wishes to thank all those who took the time to respond. We now await the outcomes of the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.
