Lift up your Hearts - National Liturgy Conference

Lift up your Hearts - National Liturgy Conference

WHEN: Wednesday January 15 @ 3.15pm – Saturday January 18
WHERE: Diocese of Wollongong, Xavier Conference Centre, 36-38 Harbour St.

Lift Up your Hearts, We lift them up to the Lord

Each week, those who gather to celebrate eucharist participate in this dialogue which begins the Eucharistic Prayer.  On December 4 this year, we celebrate 50 years since the promulgation of the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy.  What an impact that document continues to have on the many ways we gather to ‘lift up our hearts’!

The 2014 National Liturgy Conference,  Lift up our Hearts, is an invitation to all lovers of liturgy, especially musicians, to gather to celebrate this great anniversary and to deepen our appreciation and understanding of the liturgy. The focus of the Conference is Full, conscious and active participation of all the faithful (SC a.14): Exploring and celebrating Vatican II’s vision for living the mission in prayer and worship

Lift Up Your Hearts is also the inaugural conference of the recently established Australian Pastoral Musicians Network (APMN) and so provides a wonderful opportunity to renew our focus on the Council’s vision for the integral place of music in liturgy.  A rich tableau of keynote presentations by local and overseas presenters, workshops, liturgical celebrations and social networking opportunities will be on offer, all meant to help participants celebrate the liturgical blessings of the Vatican Council and to take stock of the challenges that await those who serve in the Church’s liturgical and musical ministries.

Keynote speakers include Fr. Michael Joncas, Dr. Michael McMahon, Ms Louise Campbell and Archbishop Mark Coleridge.  Keynotes and workshops have been organised to provide particular focuses: for clergy on Thursday; for teachers, catechists and children’s liturgy also on Thursday; for parish liturgical ministry on Saturday; and on inculturation across the days.  The conference provides something for everyone.

Given that Wollongong is so close to us and no air travel is involved, the Diocesan Liturgy Council encourages members of our diocesan community to consider participating in this conference.  Together we could make a big Maitland-Newcastle splash in Wollongong!
