Faith filled catechists gather with Bishop Bill

Joy filled the Cathedral as a loyal band of volunteers gathered with Bishop Bill and ten priests of the Diocese to celebrate the Annual Catechists’ Mass last Friday night.

Faith filled catechists gather with Bishop Bill

The opening hymn, "Cry the Gospel" set the tone for the night as the congregation prayed for God’s blessing upon the work of Special Religious Education (SRE) in State Schools.

Drawing on the Scripture readings, Bishop Bill preached about the boldness of building the Kingdom of God and encouraged the Catechists to assist just 10 children to know Jesus through their lessons.

He likened the Catechists to ancient prophets, Jesus’ apostles and the great missionary Paul, declaring them to be part of the long and courageous tradition of spreading the Good News.

Including parish leaders, prayer partners and colleagues from other denominations, this was a celebration of faithfulness and commitment. Several Catechists were recognised for years of service to Jesus and the Church, as they recommitted themselves to the ministry of SRE.

You can learn more about SRE in the Children's Ministries section of the website.
