Celebrating the Sisters of Mercy at Wallsend

On St Patrick’s Day, March 17, the Wallsend parish remembered the significant role the Sisters of Mercy have played in the St Patrick’s Catholic parish and school community.

Celebrating the Sisters of Mercy at Wallsend

For about 80 years the Sisters commuted, sometimes at considerable inconvenience, back and forth from the Lambton Convent before finally taking up residence at the newly built Wallsend convent on St Patrick’s Day 1963.

The school and parish community held a special Mass on Sunday 17 March to honour the Sisters of Mercy.

The Mass was followed by a visit to the convent and then a lunch and celebrations in St Patrick’s Hall.
