Happy 150th birthday, St Brigid's Raymond Terrace

For 150 years the Gothic sandstone Church of St Brigid at Raymond Terrace has served as a place of prayer, worship, peace and celebration.

Happy 150th birthday, St Brigid's Raymond Terrace

Former parishioners, teachers at St Brigid’s School and priests were invited to join the parish community for Mass on Sunday morning followed by celebrations in the historic parish hall. Sumptuous morning teas are expected on these occasions and this one was no exception. A special cake was cut by senior parishioners Mona Hancock, Des Dwyer and Bernie O’Brien.  A second cake magically appeared to mark the birthdays of Angela Teah-Wilson (10) and Wal Pracy (who wasn’t saying).

There was a commemorative booklet compiled by parishioner Moira Saunderson and the inaugural showing of a DVD tracing the last 150 years in words and images. Leanne Hogan of St Brigid’s School invested many hours in preparing this and her efforts were very well received.

Former ‘PPs’ Frs Paul O’Neill and Lex Levey joined Frs Kevin Kiem and Phil Doyle once their own commitments allowed.  A congratulatory message from Bishop Bill captured the deep faith of the community that the historic church represents and encourages.
