Celebrating CatholicCare's Foster Carers

The selflessness and commitment of CatholicCare's foster carers throughout the Hunter was celebrated at the annual Foster Care Week luncheon this September.

Celebrating CatholicCare's Foster Carers

The luncheon was attended by approximately 70 carers and staff from both the Out of Home Care and Youth Programs.

The event provided many long term carers with the opportunity to catch up with each other, to meet many of our new carers, and for all to share their journey in caring.

Guest speaker Melina Skidmore shared her experiences of a childhood in care and how she has channelled her energy as an adult into founding an organisation called 'Angels for the Forgotten'. Melina's story and positivity touched many in the audience and highlighted the importance of stability and consistency in a foster child's life as well as the need for adults to advocate for children.

Teah, an inspirational young woman from the Supported Independent Living Program, advised carers of the need to care and love the foster children placed in their care and to ensure they don't feel like outsiders.

Staff from Out of Home Care would like to thank the diocesan community and businesses who donated gifts for raffles - the celebration was made even more joyous for the many carers who went home with a range of fabulous prizes!

Thank you to all our wonderful carers for making such a difference in the lives of children and young people who need a loving and stable home!

"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child." Forest E. Witcraft
