Big wins for Aurora

On Wednesday 5th September 2012, the Australasian Catholic Press Association's Awards for Excellence 2012 were announced in Wellington, New Zealand.

The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle's publication Aurora, was announced as the winner of a number of awards including:

-Best Regional Publication
-Best Magazine Front Cover
-Best Editorial Feature
-Best Column by Joanne Isaac
-Highly commended for 'Best article on Catechesis' by Trish Bogan

The Australasian Religious Press Association Awards were also announced in Wellington and Aurora was again awarded in a number of categories:

- Best faith reflection: Silver Award for Sexual orientation - a family's story by Greg Byrne
- Best story on social justice: Bronze Award for Just stop having babies? by Donna Mulhearn
- Best regional publication: Silver Award for Aurora
- Most improved publication: Gold Award for Aurora

Congratulations to the Editor of Aurora, Tracey Edstein, the hard working and dedicated Aurora editorial committee (who all volunteer their time), regular writers and all those who have been willing to write for, or submit articles to, Aurora for consideration or publication.

In 2011, Aurora underwent a very big change and for the first time, was inserted into the Newcastle Herald, Maitland Mercury, Singleton Argus, Muswellbrook Chronicle, Manning River Times and Scone Advocate as a colour-gloss liftout. This enabled Aurora to reach a much larger audience and it continues to be a fantastic way of getting our news stories into the wider community.
