No Interest Loans Scheme

The Josephite No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) is a scheme established by the Sisters of St Joseph, Lochinvar to provide low-income consumers with a no interest loans so that basic household goods can be purchased.

NILS is prepared to make no interest loans of up to $1000 to people on low incomes living in the Mayfield area who need to purchase basic household goods. Depending on the borrower's ability to pay, the term will be between 12 and 18 months. Residence at their current dwelling for at least twelve months is essential.

The loans are designed to enable people on government benefits, pensions or health card holders to buy such necessities as refrigerators and washing machines. NILS specifies buying new appliances to overcome problems that often arise with second hand goods. Buyers have the protection of a full warranty on new machines. Again, new appliances are usually much more efficient, easing the burden of high electricity bills for needy families.

Those interested should contact the NILS Coordinator to find out the conditions that apply. After supplying these details, they will then have a confidential interview. All applicants will eb advised in writing as to the result of the interview. Repayments are negotiated at the time of the loan.
