About Our Bishop

A bishop is a priest who is specially ordained to teach, lead and look after the spiritual needs of a particular group of people, usually a diocese. The Most Reverend Michael Malone is the current bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. He is the pastoral leader of about 147,500 Catholics in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter and Manning areas. In these communities the Catholic Church provides pastoral, health and aged care, social welfare, health care and educational services.
