Diocesan Council of Priests/Consultors/Trustees

The Council of Priests is elected by the priests of the diocese to assist the bishop in the governance of the diocese. In this diocese the Council of Priests also fulfil the roles of Diocesan Consultors and Diocesan Trustees.

The bishop is bound by Canon Law to confer with his Consultors regarding the stewardship of diocesan resources and other governance matters. All diocesan resources are legally held by Trustees and are referred to as the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
